Dana
A geisha's patron, like a husband.
Geiko
The region in Memoirs of a Geisha, Kyoto, refers to geisha as a geiko.
Hizizuri
A long trailing kimono typically worn during an odori.
kimono
The robe like garment that geisha wear daily.
Kofurisode
The kimono worn by geisha in the day when they are not entertaining.
Maiko
A young girl who is starting her training around the ages of 15 or 16. The term translates to "dancing girl".
obi
The sash worn around the waist of a geisha.
Oduri
A dance.
Okasan
"Mother" or the leader of an okiya.
Okiya
The house where geisha or maiko live with their okasan.
Yukata
A cotton kimono worn in the summer.
